Speaking of Food and Healthy Living Award: Excellence in Consumer Nutrition Communication

The Speaking of Food and Healthy Living Award is an annual award program that honours initiatives that support Canadians in their quest to eat healthier and be more active. Created by the Dietitians of Canada and Kraft Canada, the award reflects the commitment of both sponsoring organizations to recognize and promote the importance of accurate and up-to-date nutrition and physical activity information, and to supporting Canadians in their efforts to understand and apply sound healthy living messages.

About the Awards

The Award was developed in 1997 in response to the Speaking of Food and Healthy Eating: A Consumer Perspective report, which revealed that Canadians wanted to eat healthier but were confused by conflicting and difficult to understand nutrition messages. Today, the award also reflects the importance of physical activity. A followup report was also created in 2004/2005 called Speaking of Food and Healthy Living Children and Healthy Weights: Parents' Perspective, a pivotal report that revealed the realities of parents trying to help their kids attain healthy weights.

The call for entry will be available in December 2010.
