Dietitians have an in-depth scientific knowledge of food and human nutrition and integrate this knowledge with that from other disciplines including health and social sciences, education, communication and management. Dietitians are the recognized food and nutrition professionals in Canada.
Professional Standards guide the profession in its pursuit of excellence. Standards are based on the values, priorities and practice of the profession. Standards influence all stages of a dietitian's practice. Academic and practicum standards ensure high quality in programs educating and training new graduates. Undergraduate programs in Dietetic Education and dietetic internship/practicum programs undergo a regular accreditation review to confirm maintenance of standards. Established Standards of Practice, which includes a Code of Ethics, defines each dietitian's professional responsibility and guide practice performance and behaviour.
